San Diego Sockers News Release


SAN DIEGO - The 14-time champion San Diego Sockers begin a home-and-home series with the Turlock Express on Friday, 7:05 p.m., in Turlock. The game will be broadcast live on MASL.TV and fans are encouraged to attend the Watch Party at Hooters Mission Valley.

The last time the Sockers played they defeated Turlock 9-2 on December 17 at home. San Diego can start the new year off on the right foot if they can manage to sweep the series and improve to 9-0, which would help them put a stranglehold on the Pacific Division.

Turlock is led by talented forward Ivan Campos, who is third in the league in points (27) and second in goals (18). Contributing to Express offense are midfielders Martyn Arista and Arturo Pulido. The backline is anchored by Jose Barajas and Alex Paz. Edgar Martinez has played the majority of games (7) in goal for Turlock.

The Sockers hope that the holiday break will not slow them down entering 2018. San Diego maintains a 3 1/2 game lead over second place Ontario. Captain Kraig Chiles leads the team in scoring with 20 points (14 G, 6 A). The midfield trio of Matt Clare, Luan Oliveira, and Erick Tovar has tallied 17 goals and 16 assists to support the offensive attack. The team's strength has been the MASL-leading goalkeeper tandem of Boris Pardo (3.25 GAA) and Chris Toth (3.33 GAA).

Supporters are invited to attend the Sockers Watch Party at Hooters, Mission Valley. The game will be broadcast live on MASL.TV.

San Diego and Turlock will conclude their two-game series on Sunday, 5:05 p.m., at Valley View Casino Center. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free Sockers Water Bottle Team for Wellness Night. The team in conjunction with the San Diego Blood Bank will host the Sockers Blood Drive in the Valley View Casino Center parking lot's north side from 12:00-5:00 p.m. Individuals who donate blood will receive a free ticket voucher that can be used for either the January 21 or February 22 game.
