
Sockers host Cleveland in Thursday homecoming

SAN DIEGO, Calif. Â The Sockers (11-17) return to the friendly confines of the Sports Arena this Thursday at 6 p.m to take on the Cleveland Force (9-19) for the final time in the regular season. The Sockers have designated tonight as Cool School Night, a health and safety expo featuring the San Diego Burn Institute, the American Lung Association, and the Blood Bank of San Diego who will be set up on the concourse level. In addition, the first 3,000 fans in attendance receive a free Sockers beanie courtesy of Aztec Appliance, Whole Foods Market and Telemundo 33.
The Sockers are 9-5 at home and trail the Dallas Sidekicks by five games The team is coming off a 7-6 loss to the Philadelphia KiXX on March 7. San Diego looks to snap a season-high four-game losing streak. A win would help the Sockers¹ efforts to secure a spot in the playoffs. To do so, they will have to get past Cleveland, a team that has taken all three games between the clubs so far this season, as well as all five meetings in 2002-03. In their last meeting on February 8, 2004 the Force beat San Diego by a score of 7-3 in Cleveland.
Zoran Karic leads the Cleveland offense with 27 points. Lee Edgerton and Adauto Neto are tied for leading goal-scorer with 18 goals each. John Ball leads the Cleveland defense with 36 blocks on the season.
San Diego does have some offensive firepower of their own. Paul Wright leads the team with 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points. Teammate Mariano Bollella is second with 21 goals and 10 assists for 31 points. 2004 All-Star defender Sean Bowers leads the MISL with 70 blocks for the season. Sockers¹ fans will also get their first look at the two newest faces on the San Diego roster, midfielder Ato Leone and defender, Larry Inlow. Both players were signed last week and are making their first starts at the Sports Arena.
