Sockers Fall to Wave at Home

SAN DIEGO, Calif. " The San Diego Sockers rallied late in the fourth to come within two goals, but Milwaukee's defense held off the charge and defeated the Sockers 5-3. The loss dropped the Sockers to .500 with a record of 9-9, second in the Western Division.

The MISL's leading scorer, Greg Howes put the Wave on the board first with a goal from an assist by Todd Dusosky at 6:56 in the first. The point remained unanswered until 3:52 in the second, when the Socker's Matt Johnson found Tony Velazquez who put one away (1-1). The Wave's Chris Morman broke the tie four minutes later off an assist by Lovelace Ackah (2-1). San Diego had scoring opportunities late in the period but could not convert and the half ended with Troy Dusosky finding Howes once again. The Wave forward turned on Socker's defender Kevin Sakuda for the score to put the Wave up 3-1 at the break.

After the half, the Wave scored first again with Angel Rivillo finding the back of the San Diego net on an assist by Howes (1-4). The game remained scoreless into the fourth when, at 2:51, Paul Wright blasted one past goalie Dan Green on a restart goal, putting the Sockers within two. Milwaukee's offense however was dauntless and at 6:24 Todd Dusosky scored again with help from Ackah (5-2). Robbie Aristodemo came in as sixth attacker and at 12:28, it was Mauricio Alegre to Nino DaSilva to put the Sockers at 3-5. Milwaukee retained their lead and remains undefeated against the Sockers in three games this season. The Wave also improved their MISL leading record to 13-3.

Sean Bowers led the Sockers with two blocks followed by Chris McDonald and Johnson with one each. Goalie Victor Nogueira saved 14 of 19 shots faced. Todd Dusosky led the Milwaukee with two blocks followed by four other teammates with one each. Goalkeeper Dan Green earned the win with 14 of 17 shots saved.

The Sockers next game takes them to Philadelphia to take on the KiXX on Saturday, January 17 at 4:00 p.m. The Sockers next action at the Sports Arena is Friday, January 23 against the Kansas City Comets. The first 4, 000 fans to the Sports Arena will receive a free Victor Nogueira bobble-head doll.
