Sockers and Hovenic Team Up

The San Diego Sockers and local soccer camp icon, Mike Hovenic will team up this summer to hold a series of summer soccer camps for area youths. Hovenic has been running his soccer camps since 1978 and has been long considered one of the top national and international soccer clinicians in the country.

³The San Diego Sockers are thrilled to form the number one soccer camp in San Diego County in our partnership with Mike Hovenic. We are the only camp in San Diego County that will feature professional players to teach the campers, ³said Coach Brian Quinn.

The Sockers will lend their talented players to form a unique and exciting experience for players of all ages and skill levels. Some of the players include Sockers¹ captain Mariano Bollella, legendary goalkeeper Victor Nogueira and veteran defender Sean Bowers, along with a host of other Sockers.

Hovenic is a US Soccer Federation licensed coach with 34 years of experience as a high school, community college, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and NCAA Division I coach. Hovenic is a 25-year member of the AYSO National Coaching Commision and AYSO Section 11 coach. He has licensed and certified over 4,500 coaches for CYSA and AYSO and been named two-time conference College Coach of the Year. For the past 26 years, Hovenic has been director of the Mike Hovenic soccer camps in San Diego and was selected one of the top 100 soccer personalities in San Diego County.

The camps will run throughout the summer months and take place all around San Diego. There are a variety of camp levels depending on each child¹s needs and desire.
