Madison, WI - The Madison Mallards (1-0, 19-15) started the second half of their Northwoods League season off with a bang, beating the Kalamazoo Growlers (0-1, 13-23) by a score of 8-1 before 5,977 at the "Duck Pond."

Mallards southpaw Kirby Snead (Florida) went six full innings, giving up one run on just two hits while striking out five to move to 2-0 on the year.

Snead had a perfect game through 4.1 innings, retiring the first 13 batters he faced. Growlers right fielder Jared Kujawa (Western Michigan) singled with one out in the fourth and would come around to score later on a Bryce Harman (East Carolina) RBI single to disrupt Snead's perfect outing.

Growlers starter Luke Bolka (Eastern Carolina) lasted two innings, letting up three runs and three hits to fall to 0-3 on the year.

The Mallards were led offensively by newcomers Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) and Trace Tam Sing (Washington State).

Marabell was 3-for-4 with three RBI, two singles, one double and added two runs in his first game with the club. Tam Sing homered in the fifth, a one run blast over the Budweiser rooftop in left field, to put the Mallards up 4-1. He finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

The Mallards would add two runs in both the sixth and the seventh innings to bring the final score to 8-1.

The Mallards continue play tomorrow at the "Duck Pond" against the Growlers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm and Charter Communications will present the Human Cannonball.
