Notes: Behind eight runs on ten hits, the Beloit Snappers claimed their first victory of the young season, 8-0. Starter Brian Kirwan picked up the win, going 5.2 innings and allowing just one hit. The 6-5 righty from California also struck out four Chiefs on the night.
The Snappers scored their first run of the night in the top of the third inning. Catcher Daniel Lehmann led off with a double and was driven home one batter later on a fielder's choice by Joe Benson. Lehmann's run gave Beloit an early 1-0 lead.
Beloit got going again in the top of the sixth inning; this time off the bat of first baseman Chris Parmelee. The former first-rounder delivered his third home run in as many games over the center field wall, giving the Snaps a 2-0 advantage.
The game remained 2-0 until the top of the ninth inning when the Snappers would pile on six more runs and put the game out of reach. The six-run outburst was highlighted by a two-run single from second baseman Steve Singleton. All-in-all, the Snappers scored their six runs off of six hits and two Peoria errors and headed into the bottom of the ninth ahead 8-0.
Reliever Blair Erickson shut the door on the Chiefs in the bottom of the ninth, retiring Peoria in order and picking up one strikeout.
Upcoming Schedule: Beloit and Chiefs will play game two of the four-game series in Peoria on Tuesday morning at 11:00am. The Snappers will have right hander David Bromberg on the mound and Peoria will counter with right hander Ryan Acosta.
