
Snappers Fall Despite 9th Inning Rally

Beloit, WI- Despite a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth by the Beloit Snappers, they fell 6-5 against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night at Pohlman Field.
The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers jumped on Snappers starter, Jason Wheeler early when Cameron Garfield hit a two-run homer scoring Nick Ramirez, who walked giving the Rattlers a 2-0 lead.
Wheeler gave up his second home run in the top of the third to Lance Roenicke increasing the Timber Rattlers lead to 3-0. Garfield picked up his third RBI of the night when he hit a double scoring Brandon Macias, who doubled to left also. Greg Hopkins hit a sac fly to score Ramirez, who singled improving their lead to 5-0.
The Snappers got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out double by Stephen Wickens, scoring Drew Leachman, who singled to center making it 5-1.
Ben McMahan hit a triple in the top of the fifth scoring Macias, who doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Wheeler pushing the Timber Rattlers lead to
6-1.
Kennys Vargas got his first hit of the night against Timber Rattlers' starter, Mark Williams with an RBI double scoring Eddie Rosario, who hit an infield single in the bottom of the sixth bringing the score to 6-2.
Williams worked five and a third innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out three and walking two.
Steven Gruver relived Jason Wheeler in the top of the seventh. Wheeler pitched six innings, allowing ten hits and six earned runs, while striking out three and walking two.
DJ Baxendale relieved Gruver in the top of the ninth. Gruver pitched two scoreless innings allowing only one hit while striking out one.
Stosh Wawrzasek came in to close the game in the bottom of the ninth. Nate Roberts led off with a base hit followed with a walk by Eddie Rosario. Sano then hit a single scoring Roberts. Vargas then walked loading the bases for Drew Leachman. Leachman hit a two-RBI double to score Rosario and Sano. A.J. Pettersen came in to pinch run for Vargas on third base. Wickens was intentionally walked loading the bases for Koch. Koch struck out, which then brought up Tyler Grimes with the bases loaded. Grimes struck out to end the ballgame.
The Snappers and Timber Rattlers finish their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. On the mound for the Snappers is Tyler Jones, who is 3-4 with a 5.25 ERA in 61.2 innings pitched.
