Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. â The Columbus Cottonmouths of the SPHL today announced the signing of defensemen Barrett Labossiere (luh-bahs-ee-YAY) and Chris Rook, and left wing Tim Green.
Labossiere, a 6'1", 195-pound defenseman with a right-handed shot, comes to Columbus after a stint last season in Europe with Kitzbuhel, Austria. In 24 games last season, Labossiere amassed 46 points (14G, 32A). He also had a successful career at the University of Manitoba, with 51 points (7G, 44A) in 140 total games from 1999-03.
Rook joins the Snakes this season after playing the past three seasons for Lake Forest College. He led the team in plus-minus each season and was a combined +45 over 71 career games at Lake Forest. Last season, he served as the Foresters' team captain and led all defensemen in scoring, earning him team MVP honors. The 5'11", 175-pound left-hander will begin his first pro season this year in Columbus.
"I'm looking for Barrett and Chris to be a big part of this team offensively and be leaders on my defensive core," said Cottonmouths head coach and general manager Jerome Bechard.
Green comes to Columbus after a successful season last year for Augustana University in Camrose, Alberta. The 6'0", 200-pounder led the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference last season with 35 goals and 52 points in 28 games played and was named both team and league MVP for his efforts. His 35-goal output was remarkable in that it was 14 goals better than the second-leading goal scorer in the conference.
"Green came highly recommended to me from Brad Prefontaine," said Bechard, referring to one of his teammates from the Snakes' CHL championship season and a fan favorite in Columbus. "I'm looking for Tim to provide a lot up front in the scoring department."
The Snakes open the inaugural SPHL season at home on Friday, October 29 at 7:30 PM against the Knoxville Ice Bears. The weekend heats up on Saturday, October 30 as one of the fiercest rivalries in minor-league hockey history is rekindled when the Macon Trax visit the Snake Pit.
