Snakes Sign Four: Aide,Peddle and Two Rookies

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announce the signing of four players to their training camp roster. Re-joining the Cottonmouths for his third season with the team is forward Will Aide, while forward Jordan Peddle comes to Columbus for his sophomore pro season after his rookie campaign in the SPHL last year with the Mississippi Surge. The Snakes also welcome rookie forward Louis Belisle and first-year pro defenseman Tyler MacPherson to camp.

Forward Will Aide, 24, begins his third season and second full year with the Cottonmouths. He established a physical role with the team last season, finishing second on the team and third in the SPHL with 201 penalty minutes in 53 games. He wasn't just known for his fisticuffs, as he also pitched in 16 points (9G, 7A) during the 2013-14 season. The 6'0", 200-pound forward began his pro career with Columbus in 2012-13, scoring a goal and an assist in ten games. Aide played five seasons of junior hockey from 2006 to 2011 with Bismarck (NAHL), Fairbanks (NAHL), and Indiana (USHL) prior to a two-season collegiate career from 2011 to 2013 with the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

Jordan Peddle will begin his second professional season with the Snakes after playing his rookie year in the SPHL with the now-defunct Mississippi Surge. He finished second on the team with 28 points (10G, 18A) and was one of only two players on the Surge roster to appear in all 56 regular season games. The 5'10", 190-pound Peddle played four seasons of junior hockey in Canada's Western Hockey League with Swift Current and Edmonton, scoring a combined 86 points (34G, 52A) in 264 career games. Prior to beginning his pro career in Biloxi, the 23-year-old Peddle played one season collegiately with the University of Saskatchewan, scoring two goals and two assists in 20 games in 2012-13.

Belisle, 23, joins the Snakes after four seasons collegiately in New England at Middlebury College, the same school from which current Cottonmouths defenseman Tom Maldonado hails. Belisle played an even 100 games for Middlebury from 2010 to 2014, serving as captain last year in his senior season. He led all of Division III hockey last season with 19 goals and 12 power play tallies. He was also named first-team All-American in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and a Division II/III All-Star by the New England Hockey Writers Association. The 5'7", 170-pounder scored a career total of 73 points (42G, 31A) in his 100 games at Middlebury.

Rookie defenseman Tyler MacPherson has also signed to the Cottonmouths' training camp roster. MacPherson, 21, actually is beginning his pro career in his hometown of Brampton, Ontario as he is in camp with the Central Hockey League's Brampton Beast. The 6'3", 180-pound MacPherson played three seasons in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Georgetown Raiders, picking up 29 points (10G, 19A) in a combined 126 games from 2011-14. Goaltender Shannon Szabados won't be the only Cottonmouth with a gold medal; MacPherson won gold in 2012 with the Canadian under-20 ball hockey team in the world championships.

The Cottonmouths will begin their 11th season as an original member of the SPHL on October 24 with their season opener at home against the Knoxville Ice Bears.
