St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD-Sioux Falls (4-4, 20-36) held on for a 7-4 victory over the Blacksnakes (5-4, 31-26) in a midday matinee. After St. Joe plated a run in the first, it was all Canaries who struck for the next six before holding on for the second straight night.
By losing the first two games, St. Joe loses their first series since back in early June 2-4 at Sioux City. After scoring in the first, St. Joe stranded six runners in the first four innings, and 11 total for the game.
The Blacksnakes mounted a rally for the second straight, bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth after trailing by 6-1 and 7-2 margins, but neither Terrell Merriman nor Mark Burke could come through in the ninth.
Ben Thomas had three hits for the 'Snakes and Burke had two hits, including his second home run of the year in the loss.
The 'Snakes will now try to avoid being swept Thursday evening at Sioux Falls Stadium. Game time is 7:05pm with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show opening the show at 6:45pm. Andrew Edwards (1-2) starts for the 'Snakes opposed by Matt Koziara (1-1) for Sioux Falls.
