Calgary Vipers News Release

A run in the bottom of the ninth inning handed the Calgary Vipers a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Edmonton Cracker-Cats at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. After falling behind 4-0 early the Vipers were able to tie up the game with a four run seventh inning but never went ahead and eventually lost in the last inning. The Snakes left two go-ahead runs on in scoring position in the pivotal seventh inning and in total stranded nine base runners. With the loss Calgary is now 19-23 in the second half of the season and 45-41 overall.

Edmonton took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Marcus Nettles singled, Juan Infante reached on an error by shortstop Carlos Duncan, Carlos Arroyo flew out to move both runners into scoring position, and Nettles scored on a Jose Morban run batted in fielder's choice. After Joe Jiannetti walked Infante scored on a Chris Van Rossum RBI fielder's choice for the 2-0 advantage.

The Cracker-Cats doubled their lead an inning later thanks to a two-out rally started by Nettles and Infante base hits, a Arroyo walk, and a Morban two run double for the 4-0 score.
