Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
The Columbus Cottonmouths are pleased to announce their promotional schedule for the 2009-10 season, continuing with some annual favorites, and adding new, exciting events for fans.
Prior to the season, the Snakes will play a home-and-home exhibition series with Huntsville, hosting the Havoc on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $5 and general admission seating. The Snakes will head to Huntsville on Saturday, Oct. 17 for a road exhibition game.
The Snakes open their 14th regular season at home Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 and 24 against the Fayetteville FireAntz. The first 2,500 fans on Friday will receive a magnetic schedule courtesy of TIC Federal Credit Union, and Saturday we will welcome high school bands to provide in-game entertainment at our Band Bash. An indoor trick or treat Halloween event will be held at our 1 p.m. game on Oct. 31, where fans can come enjoy hockey, candy, fun and games. The Snakes' first Diaper Derby will be held on November 20, where children under 1 will race, crawling down the ice to win great prizes.
Headlining promotional events this season will be the appearance of UFC Fighter Forrest Griffin for Fight Night, Saturday, Nov. 21, presented by Premier Martial Arts, GameLink, Flip Flops, Chesters Barbeque and AllOverTheValley.com. Griffin, a former light heavyweight champion of the UFC, will participate in on-ice activities and host a meet and greet. Meet and Greet tickets are on sale now with limited quantities available. The Cottonmouths will be wearing âSnake in the Cage' jerseys, which will be auctioned following the game.
On December 11 and 12, the Snakes will repeat our âGoals Against' promotion which, last season, earned fans the opportunity to purchase $3 tickets. The total number of goals scored against the Snakes in these two home games combined will equal the price of upper level tickets to Tuesday's Dec. 22 game (min. $2-max. $8).
To ring in the new year, the first 1,000 fans on January 1 will receive a calendar poster from Sunshine Banners and Signs, featuring a 2010 calendar and all your favorite Cottonmouths players. The Snakes' first annual wiener dog races will take place on the ice during intermission on Saturday, Jan. 9, presented by 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital. Dachshunds can be registered at the Snakes office or 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital. Bobblehead dolls of fan favorite Ryan McCarthy will be given to the first 1,000 fans on Saturday, Jan. 23, sponsored by Burger King.
We kick off February with Legends/Olympic Weekend, Feb. 4-6. Former Snakes players will return to Columbus and play a legends game prior to the Snakes game on Feb. 6. With the 2010 Winter Olympics approaching, we will celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the 1980 USA Hockey team's âMiracle on Ice' in Lake Placid. Snakes players will wear Olympic jerseys, to be auctioned following the game.
The Snakes' popular replica jersey giveaway for the first 1000 fans is scheduled for Friday, March 5, courtesy of the Columbus Civic Center. On Saturday, March 13, the Snakes will again attempt to break the Guinness World Record as we host "Kazoo Take Two", presented by Everything Musical. The Cottonmouths fell just short of this record last year, and look to break it this season.
New concessionaires Boston Culinary Group and the Cottonmouths are pleased to offer fans Dollar Days each Tuesday and Thursday at the Snake Pit. Dollar days will consist of $1 popcorn, hotdogs, nachos and sodas, and $2 16-oz draft beer. Five Georgia Lottery Nights will be held throughout the season, with the first 500 fans receiving a scratch-off lottery ticket. Burger King will host two Kids Days on Sunday, Jan. 17 and Feb. 28. Free tickets to these games for children 12 and under will be available at local Burger Kings in the weeks leading up to these games.
The Cottonmouths are pleased to introduce a text messaging service to keep fans better informed this season. Fans can text âSnakes' to 41513 to receive text message updates throughout the season on upcoming games and promotions.
The Snakes will continue their perfect attendance program in participating local schools, rewarding children with a free ticket for perfect attendance. This program is open to all schools wanting to join. The Snakes have also started a Brushing Buddies program this season, rewarding children, 12 and under, with a free hockey ticket after a great dental checkup. Thanks to our participating dentists, Dr. Arnold, Dr. Lee, Dr. Polk, Dr. Parker, Dr. Murrell, Dr. Narde, Dr. Leerssen, Dr. King, Dr. Lopez, Dr. Lawrence, Dr. Denamur, Dr. Kinsaul and Dr. Serff.
Season ticket holders will receive several great perks again this season. Season ticket holders save over $2 per ticket, and any unused tickets may be exchanged for any March home game. Season ticket holders also receive merchandise discounts, first priority seating for the playoffs, exclusive events with the players, automatic entry into all major drawings and giveaways and an optional flex payment plan. The Snakes and Civic Center box office are working together to provide season ticket holders with pre-sale opportunities on various concerts and events. Season ticket holders will be notified when any of these opportunities arise. The annual season ticket holder/sponsors golf tournament is scheduled for November 17, and Skate with the Snakes is February 23.
