BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Surge announced on Tuesday that they have signed rookie forwards Ryan Gervais and Ryan Mero for the 2009-10 season.

"Ryan Gervais brings a physical presence and a scoring touch, a good combination to make the 2009-10 Surge team," said head coach Steffon Walby. "Ryan Mero brings more of a physical presence and great hockey sense on the penalty-kill. Both of them will challenge established professionals for positions on the squad."

A native of Chicago, Ill., Ryan Gervais joins the Surge after playing four seasons of NCAA Division-III college hockey at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., where he scored 61 goals and 69 assists for a total of 130 points in 110 career games. The 5-8, 175-pound Gervais had a career-high 22 goals in 2007-08 and career highs in games played (29) and assists (25) in 2008-09 and was named a 2008-09 New England Hockey Writers All-Star and an Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast Academic All-American.

Ryan Mero will begin his professional career with Mississippi after scoring 119 points (51g, 68a) in 84 games with St. Michael's College, a Division-III program in Colchester, Vt. Mero set career highs in games played (28), assists (28) and points (43) in 2008-09 with the Purple Knights, averaging 1.54 points per game, and was named the team's Co-Most Valuable Player and was named a semi-finalist for the Ninth Annual Joe Concannon Award.
