Smolinski Named Player Of The Month

PORT HURON, MI - Port Huron Icehawks center Bryan Smolinski was named International Hockey League Player of the Month for March, the league announced on Wednesday.
Smolinski has made a big impact since signing with the Icehawks in late February. The NHL veteran finished his first full month in the IHL with 21 points (5g, 16a) in 13 games. He put up points in all but two of the contests he played in March and had seven multi-point games, including a four point performance on March 15th vs. Muskegon.
The 37-year old native of Toledo, Ohio saw an eight game point and assist streak snapped on March 31st versus Bloomington, after tallying three goals and 12 assists in that span.
This is the first IHL honor for Smolinski and the fifth time that a Port Huron player has won monthly honors this season.
Just three home games and three away contests remain in the Icehawks regular season. The Icehawks travel to Kalamazoo on Friday to face the K-Wings before returning home to take on the Flint Generals on Saturday and the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Sunday. Saturday's game will feature a Labatt Blue Jersey Auction. On Sunday, tickets for kids 14-and-under and seniors 62-and-over are just $5 and hot dogs at McMorran Arena are only $1.
