Knoxville Smokies News Release
Sevierville, Tenn. - Tennessee (18-8, 53-43) used a three run home run from Papo Bolivar to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning en route to an 8-1 against Greenville (8-17, 44-49) on Thursday night at Smokies Park. The eight runs were the most the Smokies have scored since June 23rd when they scored nine against the Braves. Every Smokies starter in the lineup accounted for at least one hit as the Smokies earned a series split with the G-Braves.
Bolivar's first inning shot to left was his fourth of the season and it scored Skip Schumaker and John Nelson. Schumaker led off with a double and Nelson reached with a walk before they were driven home by the Bolivar blast.
Nelson extended the Smokies lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second when he lined a bases loaded single to right field scoring Yadier Molina. The ball was mishandled by Cory Aldridge, allowing Chris Weekly to score from second.
The Braves cut into the Smokies lead in the top of the fifth inning after starting pitcher Daniel Curtis (1-1) hit his second single of the game to score second baseman Richard Lewis. The Smokies lead was extended once again in the bottom half after a Scott Krause single drove in Nelson who doubled to lead off the inning. Nelson later scored on a sacrifice fly by Corey Erickson making the Tennessee lead 7-1.
Erickson put the Smokies up seven when he added his 13th home run of the season in the eighth inning and snapped an 0-for-23 skid in the process.
Smokies starter Rhett Parrott (7-9) pitched seven innings allowing just one run on six hits while striking out seven to earn the win. Curtis was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs through five innings.
The Smokies will travel to Birmingham Friday for a four game series against the Barons and the first of a 12-game road trip. Chris Narveson (2-0, 2.13) will make his third start with the Smokies as he faces Enemencio Pacheco (7-2, 2.54) of the Barons.
