Mobile BayBears News Release

Mobile, Ala. – Wednesday night's game between the Mobile BayBears and Huntsville Stars was not one for the resume. The contest featured 15 runs, 26 hits and four errors, with the BayBears losing 8-7 in a game that also featured five lead changes.

After the BayBears scored one run in the first on a double by Jon Knott, the Stars grabbed the lead with a three-run second inning. Huntsville batted around against BayBears starter Roger Deago. The big blow in the frame was a two-run double by catcher Kade Johnson.

The BayBears answered the Stars in their half of the second with a three-run inning of their own. J.J. Furminiak drove in the first run with a double down the left field line, scoring Danny Bravo. Deago followed by knocking in two runs himself with a base hit up the middle. After the second inning the BayBears led 4-3.

In the third, however, Huntsville plated two to regain the lead 5-4. Mobile, of course, scored two runs themselves in the bottom of the fourth, to retake the lead 6-5. With two outs, Vince Faison drove in Freddy Guzman with a sharp single to center and took second on an error. Rico Washington then brought Faison in with the BayBears third two-out hit of the inning.

The Stars took the lead to stay in the top of the fifth. Pinch hitter Ryan Gripp drove in Daryl Clark with a single and Johnson scored on Washington's throwing error. Huntsville made the score 8-6 in the sixth on an infield single by Clark.

Mobile made it a one-run game in the seventh. After doubling to lead off the inning, Jon Knott scored on a wild pitch by reliever Matt Parker.

The BayBears and Stars will conclude their series Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Chris Rojas (4-6) will get the start for Mobile against Huntsville's RHP Ben Hendrickson (4-1).
