Kodak, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lookouts (21-17) clinched a series win over the Tennessee Smokies (22-16) with an 8-7 victory Saturday night at Smokies Stadium. The Smokies came back from a seven-run deficit to bring the potential winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Chattanooga fended off the rally for its ninth win over the Smokies in 2022.

The Lookouts and the Smokies each scored in the first inning, but the Lookouts dominated the next five frames. Chattanooga outscored Tennessee 7-0 and recorded five more hits than the Smokies in that span.

Although Chattanooga had an 8-1 lead entering the seventh, the tables turned in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, Alexander Canario provided a spark for Tennessee with a two-RBI double. Bryce Ball followed that up with a walk and then Chase Strumpf crushed a ball to deep left field for a three-run homer, making it a two-run game.

The next batter Matt Mervis singled and came around to score on a Levi Jordan RBI single into shallow center field. The Smokies had one more chance to complete the comeback win in the ninth as Ball singled, representing the tying run, but the next two batters struck out and the Lookouts held on.

The Smokies will look to salvage a game from the series loss Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET when the Smokies send RHP Peyton Remy (3-0 5.63 ERA) to the mound against LHP Connor Curlis (1-0, 4.30 ERA). Fans can listen to the action on 99.1 The Sports Animal or by visiting https://www.milb.com/tennessee/fans/audio-listen-live.

Sundays at Smokies Stadium are Family Funday Sundays. For tickets, fans can call the box office at (865) 286-2300 or visit smokiesbaseball.com.
