Knoxville Smokies News Release

SEVIERVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Smokies fell to the Lookouts 7-2 in game two of the series at Smokies Stadium on Friday night. Tennessee left 16 runners on base in the game.

Oscar De La Cruz received the start for the Smokies and struggled from the start. De La Cruz gave up three runs in his three innings of work on 65 pitches. He struck out one and walked two

Jordan Minch replaced De La Cruz in the top of the fourth and found trouble as well. Minch gave up a two-run home run in the inning. Minch settled down after the home run though, and did not allow another run, pitching three innings and striking out two.

Down 5-0, Tennessee made a comeback in the bottom of the fourth. Ian Rice walked with one out in the inning and Trent Giambrone knocked him in immediately as he hit his 11th home run of the season over the wall in right. That cut the lead to 5-2.

Ryan McNeil was the next out of the bullpen for the Smokies in the seventh. He pitched two innings, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out two. Starting left fielder Daniel Spingola pitched the ninth inning for the Smokies and needed just six pitches to throw a scoreless inning.

Offensively, the Smokies totaled eight hits with Giambrone and Jeffrey Baez leading the team with two hits each. Baez doubled in the ninth to lead off the inning, but Tennessee couldn't get anything else going in the loss.

The Smokies and Lookouts will be back in action for game three of the series on Saturday at 7 p.m. Keegan Thompson will make his first start at Smokies Stadium for the Smokies as he looks for his first win. The Lookouts will counter with Anthony Marzi who is also looking for his first win of the season in Double-A.
