Montgomery Biscuits News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - After resuming, completing, and winning a suspended game from Thursday, 2-0, the Biscuits (41-37) took down the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (31-45) in the second game of their six-game set on Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, 5-4, to win their second-straight game and get the team back to .500 (4-4) in the Second Half.
After heavy rains suspended the series opener on Thursday night, Montgomery and Jacksonville resumed play on Friday in the bottom of the fifth, and in the top of the sixth, the Biscuits got a pair of two-out RBIs from Nick Solak and Nate Lowe to put them ahead, 2-0. The Biscuits bullpen, led by birthday boy Travis Ott (3-1) and Yoel Espinal, was terrific taking over for starter J.D. Martin, hurling a combined 4.2 scoreless innings en route to the victory.
Game two got off to a smashing start for the Biscuits as well when Thomas Milone stepped up and clocked an opposite field home run as the game's first batter to hand Montgomery an early 1-0 lead. A wild pitch by Jacksonville starter Cody Poteet (2-9) later in the inning doubled that lead to 2-0.
Peter O'Brien knocked an RBI-single into center field in the bottom of the first for the Jumbo Shrimp's first run of the series against Biscuits starter Benton Moss, who was making his first Montgomery start in almost two months because of a back injury. Moss would finish going just three innings and allowing two runs on four hits to go along with three walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision.
In the second, Mike Brosseau teed off on Poteet for his sixth home run of the season to make it 3-1, before a Brian Miller RBI-double pulled one back for Jacksonville in the bottom of the second.
Matt Krook (2-2) took over for Moss in the fourth, and despite striking out the side, surrendered a two-run home run to Isan Diaz to give the Jumbo Shrimp their first lead of the series at 4-3. The advantage was short-lived, however, because Jake Cronenworth tied the game in the top of the fifth with a sac fly, and then David Rodriguez untied the game with an RBI-single two batters later.
Jordan Harrison worked a scoreless sixth, and Curtis Taylor a scoreless seventh for the right-hander's second save in the Biscuits one-run victory, their first on the road this season (1-8).
Montgomery will try to make it three in a row on Saturday night when Genesis Cabrera (6-4) takes on Merandy Gonzalez (0-2) at 5:35 PM.
The Biscuits will head back to Montgomery to open up a four-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM CT for their Independence Day Celebration and MAX Fireworks. The series will also feature a Patriotic T-shirt giveaway on Thursday, July 5, Video Game Night with a Post-game E-Sports Tournament and MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 6, and Christmas in July and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 7.
