Knoxville Smokies News Release
Sevierville, Tenn. - The Greenville Braves (32-30) got clutch pitching as Tennessee (34-30) stranded 10 runners in a 2-1 Braves win Tuesday night at Smokies Park. This time it was Roman Colon (6-3) shutting down the Smokies. Colon worked 7 innings and scattered 5 hits to pick up his 6th win of the year.
The Braves picked up their only runs of the game in the 5th inning off starter Nick Stocks (4-3) when Cory Aldridge singled home Bill McCarthy, followed two batters later by a double from Richard Lewis that scored Aldridge. Stocks surrendered just 2 runs in 7 complete innings to suffer the loss for Tennessee.
Greenville managed just 6 hits against Stocks but came up with hits when they needed them most. Richard Lewis went 2-for-4 and was the only Greenville batter with 2 hits in the game.
Tennessee avoided the shutout with Bucky Jacobsen's league leading 15th home run of the year in the 8th inning. The home run was Jacobsen's only hit of the night. No Tennessee batter had more than one hit in the game.
Tennessee is now 4-6 versus Greenville this season. The third game of the series will pit Josh Pearce (2-1) against Matt Belisle (3-6) for the Braves.
