June 10, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Orlando Rays News Release

ORLANDO -Jim Magrane and John Benedetti combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Orlando Rays downed the Jacksonville Suns 4-0 in front of 1,043 at Cracker Jack Stadium Tuesday.

Coming off his worst outing of the season, Magrane (6-3) rebounded perfectly, scattering six hits over 7.0 innings of work. The 24-year-old Magrane struck out five in longest outing of the year and picked up his team-leading 6th win of the season. Benedetti picked up right where he left off, allowing one hit and walking one over the final two innings.

Juan Salas led the O-Rays attack with a 2-4, one RBI effort, while Jonny Gomes, Dan DeMent and Dan Grummitt all chipped in with solo RBI. Jesus Feliciano continued to haunt his former team as he sparked Orlando's four-run fifth inning with a single and then scored the winning run on Gomes' sacrifice fly.

The Rays and Suns meet again tomorrow at 11:05 a.m. with Orlando RHP Travis Minix (2-0, 3.12) making a spot start in the rotation after making 23 relief appearances this year. Jacksonville counters with RHP Edwin Jackson (2-4, 2.58).

Rays Notes
