LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. â A four-run fifth inning boost the Orlando Rays over the Suns, 4-0, on Tuesday morning in front of 1,043 fans at Cracker Jack Stadium.
The Suns (27-36) were shut out for the eighth time this season and have scored three runs in their last 33 innings.
Jonny Gomes lofted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the fifth to give the Rays a 1-0 lead against Suns starter Heath Totten. Totten (3-7) allowed singles to Jesus Feliciano and Jace Brewer and hit Chairon Isenia to set up Gomes. Dan DeMent followed with a run-scoring single to give Orlando (29-34) a 2-0 advantage. Totten hit Dan Grummitt to force home the third run. A fielding error on Victor Diaz caused an unearned run when Juan Salas singled home DeMent.
Rays starter Jim Magrane (6-3) pitched six innings, scattering six hits and walked none. John Benedetti relieved Magrane and finished the final two innings, issuing the game's first walk in the ninth inning.
Shane Victorino and Mike Collins each had two hits to pace the Suns. Salas and Frank Moore had two hits to lead the Rays.
The Suns have lost 11 of their last 14 games.
Right-hander Edwin Jackson (2-4, 2.58) is scheduled to face a to-be-announced starter for the Orlando Rays at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday at Cracker Jack Stadium.
