
Smokies Fail to Sweep BayBears

Sevierville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (3-1) were unable to overcome a five run fifth inning from the Mobile BayBears (1-3) losing 7-4 Sunday evening at Smokies Park. Tennessee led the game early 4-0, but was shutout over the final six innings. Tennessee's Caonabo Cosme lead the offense, going 3-4 with two RBI's. Mobile's fifth inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Todd Donovan and a three-run home run by John Knott off of Jeremy Cummings (0-1).
Mobile's Duncan McAdoo (1-0) earned his first win of the year, while Mike Nicolas pitched the ninth inning to earn the save.
Tennessee's Rick Ankiel made his second pitching appearance of the year, allowing two unearned runs in the eighth inning. Ankiel walked Jake Gatreau on four straight pitches to start the frame, allowed a fielder's choice and a single before committing a two base throwing error on a ground ball to the mound. Ankiel bounced back by striking the final two batters, including Todd Donovan looking at a fastball.
The Smokies start a three game series against the Jacksonville Suns Monday at Smokies Park, game time 7:15. Andrew Brown will start for the Suns against Juan Pena.
