April 6, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Orlando Rays News Release

Jackson, TN — The only way to slow down Orlando's hot bats was with a rainstorm. West Tennessee jumped to a 4-0 lead and held on to down the Rays 4-2 in a rain-shortened contest Sunday, earning a split of the four-game series.

Battling rain all afternoon, the Rays were limited to two runs and six hits in the six-inning contest. Outfielder Jonny Gomes accounted for both of the Rays' runs, blasting a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Felix Escalona added two hits for Orlando, which fell to 2-2 on the season.

Doug Waechter (0-1) took the loss for the Rays, allowing four runs on five hits in 5.0 innings. Aaron Krawiec (1-0) earned the win for the Diamond Jaxx. Eric Brown pitched a scoreless sixth to earnhis first save.

The O-Rays travel to Hunstville to take on the Stars in a three-game series starting Monday. Orlando returns home to take on the Tennessee Smokies in their 2003 Home Opener on Friday, April 11.
