Knoxville Smokies News Release

CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Tennessee Smokies were unable to stave off a late rally from the Chattanooga Lookouts on Saturday night, falling 6-4 in the second game of the series. Chattanooga used a four-run seventh inning to take the lead and eventually even the five-game series.

The Smokies got the scoring started in the top of the first inning when Eddy Martinez hit a two-out single to score Trent Giambrone, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Chattanooga responded with a run in the first inning and second inning to take a 2-1 lead. After three scoreless innings, Tennessee produced three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Yasiel Balaguert led off the sixth with a double to left field and Eddy Martinez followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. The next two batters were unable to drive in a run, but Charcer Burks walked with two outs to load the bases. Erick Castillo hit a two-out single to drive home Balaguert and Martinez, putting the Smokies up 3-2. Jeffrey Baez added to the damage with a single that scored Burks to make it a 4-2 game. Tennessee was unable to hold on to the lead, as the Lookouts scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead.

Duncan Robinson started the game as the Smokies pitcher. He threw 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Robinson also tallied five strikeouts. Scott Effross relieved Robinson to start the seventh. Effross gave up four runs on three hits and two walks. Tommy Nance pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Tennessee.

The Smokies and Lookouts will play a doubleheader on Sunday, with the first game starting at 2:15 p.m. and the second game to follow. Thomas Hatch (2-0, 2.70 ERA) is the Tennessee starter for game one and he will face Chattanooga's Zack Littell (0-2, 5.89 ERA). Oscar De La Cruz (1-3, 9.82 ERA) is expected to take the mound in game two for the Smokies and the Lookouts will go with Stephen Gonsalves (3-0, 1.77 ERA).
