Knoxville Smokies News Release
MADISON, Ala. - The Tennessee Smokies (55-46, 18-14) snapped a two-game losing streak to the Rocket City Trash Pandas (57-44, 16-16) 5-3 Saturday night at Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama. Chase Strumpf hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth to preserve a quality start from Ben Brown in his Double-A debut.
With the game tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning, Strumpf hit his second home run of the series -- a one-out, two-run shot that put the Smokies on top for good, after Rocket City had scored twice in the eighth. First baseman Bryce Ball also drove in two runs in the win, and Luis Vazquez homered to put the Smokies on the board in the third.
RHP Ben Brown made his organizational debut Saturday after the Cubs swapped him for David Robertson at the Trade Deadline. Brown went five innings in a no-decision, allowing one run and striking out nine. Hunter Bigge (W, 1-0) earned the win in relief in his Double-A debut, and Danis Correa locked down the ninth for his seventh save of the year.
The Smokies will conclude their six-game road trip against the Rocket City Trash Pandas Sunday afternoon at Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama. First pitch is set for 3:35 p.m. ET when Tennessee sends LHP Jordan Wicks (0-2, 5.25) to the mound against LHP Mason Erla (4-2, 3.32).
