Knoxville Smokies News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - Friday night's game between the Tennessee Smokies and Chattanooga Lookouts series was suspended due to the Southern League curfew rule going into the tenth inning with the game tied 4-4 early Saturday morning. The game will resume on Saturday evening starting at 5:15 p.m. with the Lookouts coming to the plate in the top of the tenth. Saturday's regularly scheduled 9-inning game will begin approximately 30 minutes following the completion of the suspended game.

Fans with tickets to Friday night's game can exchange them for admission to a future Smokies' regular season home game of their choice at the Smokies' ticket office.

Chattanooga jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first. Elian Herrera walked with one out, and Hector Gimenez followed with a homer to right center to make it 2-0.

The Smokies responded quickly in the bottom half, as Brett Jackson, Ryan Flaherty, and Blake Lalli all singled to load the bases, and Matt Spencer brought in Jackson and Flaherty with a single to tie it at 2-2.

Rain then hit the area, resulting in a two hour and nine minute rain delay that halted the game in the top of the second and knocked both starting pitchers out of the game.

The two teams alternated leads in the innings following the delay. In the top of the third, Herrera doubled to lead off the inning, and later scored on a Scott Van Slyke sacrifice fly to give the Lookouts a 3-2 lead. In the fourth, Luis Flores reached on a hit by pitch with one out, and Nelson Perez followed by blasting a two-run home run to give the Smokies a 4-3 advantage.

Chattanooga tied it up at 4-4 in the seventh, as Alfredo Silverio singled with one out and scored on a Gimenez double to left.

The teams were kept scoreless through the eight innings, when the tarp had to be pulled again in the top of the ninth - this time for only 20 minutes before play resumed at 12:54 a.m. Neither team was able to score and due to Southern League rules, which states that "no inning shall start after 12:50 a.m.," the night ended in a suspended draw.

Following the resumed game, the Smokies and Lookouts will play the second game of the four-game series at Smokies Park on Saturday night. The Lookouts LHP Michael Antonini (6-8, 4.23) will face the Smokies LHP Brooks Raley (5-6, 4.50). For tickets fans can visit www.smokiesbaseball.com or call (865) 286-2300.
