JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (6-10, 43-43) beat the Montgomery Biscuits (8-9, 42-45) 6-1 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on Saturday night.

Starter Omar Poveda (4-5) was strong on the mound for the Suns, pitching five and two third innings while giving up only a run on eight hits as he earned his first win since May 31. Biscuits starter Jim Paduch (1-4) took the loss while Jacksonville's Wade Korpi pitched the final inning a third in scoreless fashion to earn his second save in 2011.

The Suns had a three-run two-out rally in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead. The rally featured consecutive RBI base hits by Jim Negrych, Luke Montz, and Alex Romero as the Suns built a three-run advantage.

Montgomery got its lone run in the top of the fourth with a Greg Sexton sacrifice fly that cut the lead to 3-1. The game remained 3-1 until the eighth inning, largely due to strong pitching by the Suns. Darin Downs pitched a scoreless two innings in relief, and he forced John Shelby III to fly out to center field with the bases loaded in the sixth to preserve the Suns' 3-1 lead.

Biscuits reliever Sergio Espinosa retired the first two men he faced in the bottom of the eighth before Jake Smolinski and Kyle Skipworth hit back-to-back singles. Ryan Curry brought them home on a three-run homer to left field that put the game out of Montgomery's reach at 6-1, which would be the final score.

Jacksonville's Paul Gran once again shined at the plate, going 3-4 with two doubles and a run scored.

The Suns and Biscuits will play in the third game of the four game series on Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Right-handed pitcher Dallas Trahern (1-2, 4.32 ERA) will pitch for the Suns against Montgomery's right-hander Shane Dyer (4-4, 4.12 ERA).

Sunday will feature "Family Faith Day" at the Baseball Grounds, featuring a post-game concert after the game, and all kids will receive Color-Me magnets. Sunday's first pitch is set for 3:05 p.m., and fans can listen to the game beginning at 2:35 p.m. with the U.F. & Shands Pregame Show on Jacksonville's WFXJ AM 930 the Fox and www.jaxsuns.com.
