Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Dakota Smith took a no-hit bid through 5 2/3 innings in another fantastic start and paced the Gateway Grizzlies to a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon over the Schaumburg Boomers.
Smith (2-1) allowed one run on four hits over eight innings. He struck out three. Shockingly, his season ERA still rose ... to 0.90.
Jhonniel Alvarez drove in Terry McClure on a groundout to give the Grizzlies (7-8) their first lead in the second inning. Blake Brown added a second run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to score Cody Livesay.
Gateway snapped a three-game losing streak.
After the Boomers (5-10) clawed back with a run in the bottom of the eighth, Grizzlies reliever Josh Glick slammed the door with a perfect ninth inning. He struck out one and claimed his second save of the season.
Hearn had two hits and new Grizzlies infielder Artemis Kadkhodaian went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Gateway returns home for a six-game homestand at GCS Credit Union Ballpark starting Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the River City Rascals. Alec Kisena (2-1, 2.64 ERA) will get the ball for the Grizzlies.
