Indiana Fever News Release
Fever guard Kamiah Smalls was drafted by the Indiana Fever in the third round on April 17. The rookie guard celebrated her 22nd birthday the same day she was announced as a WNBA draft pick on ESPN.
The rookie from James Madison University was unfortunately released by the team in May, but was re-signed by the Fever just 11 days ago. In Smalls' first action with the Fever, the rookie came off the bench to finish with 13 points, highlighted by a 3-for-3 clip from beyond the arc, and four rebounds in Monday's 100-77 loss to the Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Sky.
The 5-foot-10 guard from Philadelphia became the fourth player in Fever history to score at least 13 points in her debut game with the Indiana Fever.
Fever guard Julie Allemand continued her Rookie of the Year pursuit on Monday night becoming the third player in Fever history to record multiple games dishing out at least 10 assists. Allemand joins Coquese Washington and current Fever Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager, Tamika Catchings, as the only players to achieve the milestone. She also tied the franchise record 11 assists back on July 31 against the Dallas Wings.
Teaira McCowan came off the bench to notch her fifth double-double performance of the season.
Chicago captured the season series against Indiana on Monday as guard Courtney Vandersloot tallied 18 assists in the game, which set a new WNBA record for most assists in a single game.
The Fever now shift focus to Tuesday night's matchup at 8 p.m. ET against the Atlanta Dream for the final time during the 2020 regular season. During Indiana's 93-77 win on Aug. 2, Fever rookie guard Chennedy Carter was held to 15 points, while Courtney Williams scored 18 off the bench for the Dream. After missing five games with an ankle injury, Carter returned to play 17 minutes in a loss to Minnesota on Friday.
Atlanta started the season 2-1, and has dropped 12 of the last 13 games heading into Tuesday night. The last four losses for the Dream have been single-digit defeats.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 23 points in the first win this season against Atlanta.
