Rochester Honkers News Release
ST. CLOUD, MINN - The Honkers had their three game winning streak snapped as they lost to the Rox 11-4 on Sunday afternoon at Joe Faber Field.
Rochester committed three errors and let up five unearned runs in the first two innings, falling behind 5-0 at the end of two. Quickly after, the Honkers battled back to make it a two run game. Will Asby (Sacramento City) drove in the first Rochester run with an RBI single in the third. The Honkers scored two runs in the fourth on a double steal, allowing Alex Pimentel (Long Beach State) to cross the plate and an RBI single from Dario Gomez (Nevada).
Heading into the bottom of the fourth in a 5-3 game the Rox extended their lead in a big way. They made it 6-3 on a bases loaded walk to Brice Matthews (Nebraska) but the big hit was off the bat of Ethan Mann (Dallas Baptist). Mann smoked a three run double down the left field line to give St. Cloud a 9-3 lead.
The scoring settled down after that as the Honkers could only muster one run over the final five innings. On the pitching side, Troy Wentworth (UC Irvine) recorded another strong outing out of the Honkers bullpen, tossing two scoreless and striking out five. In the end the slow start was too much for Rochester, as they dropped game two to St. Cloud 11-4, settling for a series split.
With the loss the Honkers go into the All-Star break 21-23 overall and 6-4 in the second half. Nico Regino (Charleston Southern) and Thaniel Trumper (Doane) will participate in the Northwoods League All-Star Game on Tuesday night, first pitch is set for 7 p.m. central from Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids. You can watch the game on the Northwoods League Baseball Network and ESPN+. Your Honkers are back in action on Thursday night at Mayo Field, when they host the Willmar Stingers. First pitch for that game is set for 6:35 p.m.
