Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Rockford, IL - The Traverse City Pit Spitters swept the Rockford Rivets with a 10-6 win on Sunday, increasing their second half lead and moving into first place in the overall divisional lead for the first time this season.

The Pit Spitters are 8-3 in the second half, sweeping two series and avoiding being swept. They've won three in a row, four of their last five, and have an 11-3 lead in a game that will be resumed in August with first-half champs Kalamazoo. They have a one game lead over Kalamazoo for the overall standings and a one and a half game lead over Kenosha in the second-half standings.

The Pit Spitters scored five runs in the first and five in the second inning to take a commanding lead. Only five players recorded a hit in the game but were aided by 13 walks and three Rivets errors. Two players, Dallas Duarte and Cody Hultink recorded multiple RBI. In total, all but one starter recorded an RBI.

Jeremy Neff (3-0, 2.63 ERA) earned the victory. He only went three innings but struck out four batters. He allowed one run in the victory.

The Pit Spitters would roll out six relievers in the game. The bullpen combined for five strikeouts and five earned runs, though four of those runs were charged to Easton Johnson in the ninth. After four walks, two hits and two hit batters, Johnson left the game with the tying run at the plate. Ryan Insco entered, struck out the final batter and secured the sweep, preventing a huge meltdown.
