Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - It was not a work of art as the teams combined for eight errors (four apiece), but the Staten Island Yankees took enough of an advantage to defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades 8-6 Friday night at Dutchess Stadium. The win gave the Yankees the rubber-game of the three-game series.

For the third-straight game the Yankees struck first. In the first inning, shortstop Oswaldo Cabrera drew a walk. He came around to score as an errant pickoff attempt and a bad throw from the outfield allowed Cabrera to score from first and give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

Hudson Valley tied things up in the second as leftfielder Oscar Rojas singled, stole second, then scored on an RBI single by rightfielder Angel Perez.

The Yankees responded in the third by plating four runs on one crazy play. With the bases loaded and two out, rightfielder Carlos Vidal brought in two runs on a single to right. As the runner from first, first baseman Dalton Blaser, tried to make it to third, Renegades starting pitcher Hector Lopez threw the ball wildly down the leftfield line to allow Blaser to score and move Vidal to third. As the ball rolled down the leftfield railing, the ball left the field of play, which allowed Vidal to finish his trip around the bases and give Staten Island a 5-1 advantage.

An RBI single by designated hitter Vidal Brujan in the bottom of the third drew the Renegades a run closer, before the Yankees responded in the fourth on a groundout from centerfielder Dom Thompson-Williams to make the score 6-2.

The Renegades got back into the game in the fifth as a one out triple by shortstop Deion Tansel brought in second baseman Bill Pujols from first. A bad relay throw from Staten Island centerfielder Leonardo Molina allowed Tansel to circle the bases and make the score 6-4 Yankees.

The teams traded runs as Staten Island got an RBI single by Cabrera in the sixth and Hudson Valley scored on a throwing error by catcher Manny Argomaniz to bring the tally to 7-5. The Yankees, however, added a run in the eighth on an RBI double by Thompson-Williams to keep the Renegades at arm ' s length.

In the ninth, the Renegades got a two-out infield single from centerfielder Emilio Gustave to score Pujols and bring Hudson Valley to within two. However, first baseman stepped up as the tying run and flew out to left to end the game.

The Yankees had 11 hits, including a 3-5 performance from Thomson-Williams who doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored another. The Renegades had 14 base-knocks. Tansel led the way by going 2-4 with two triples, two runs and an RBI. Brujan chipped in by going 3-5 with a double, two singles and a run scored. Pujols also went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Getting the win for the pinstripes was starter Alexander Vargas (1-0) who allowed four runs on nine hits in five innings. Taking the loss for Hudson Valley was Lopez (0-1) who allowed

five runs, three earned, on four hits while walking four in three innings. The save went to Braden Bristo (1) of the Yankees after he allowed two runs on four hits in three innings of work.
