BURLINGTON, VT --- Ivan Andueza retired the first 15 batters he faced, Roger Gonzalez had a two-run triple and Mike Martin added a two-run single to lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 5-2 New York-Penn League victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones Friday night at historic Centennial Field.

Andueza set down the Cyclones 1-2-3 in each of the first five innings and needed just 58 pitches (40 strikes) to get through the first five frames perfect. Brooklyn finlly got a runner on base in the sixth as Franklin Correa led off the inning with a groundball single to right.

Vermont had earlier taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Gonzalez's two-run line drive triple to rightcenter scoring Martin and Jordan Devencenzi. The score stayed 2-0 until the fifth when Vermont scored three times, including a Martin groundball two-run single to right scoring Jeramiah McCray and Javier Godard for the 5-0 advantage.

Brooklyn got a couple of unearned runs in the sixth off Andueza (1-0), who finished the night allowing three runs with one walk and four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings, to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Cyclones then got three straight singles and a run off reliever Jean Ruiz to start the ninth inning, but Jose Mora came on to get a strikeout, sacrifice fly and strikeout to end the game for his first save.

Starter Darwin Ramos (0-1) allowed five runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings to take the loss for Brooklyn (2-2), while Correa was 2-for-4 and six other Cyclones added a single. Martin went 2-for-4 with a run and the two RBI for Vermont (2-3), which snapped a three-game losing streak and picked up its first home win of the season.

The Lake Monsters head to Tri-City for a three-game series against the ValleyCats and an off day on Tuesday before Vermont returns home for a five-game homestand against the Staten Island Yankees and Lowell Spinners beginning on Wednesday.
