Sliders Shutout By Hannibal's Gardner For 2nd Time
July 27, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders finished up their four game road trip with a 6-0 loss to the Hannibal Cavemen tonight at Clemens Field in Hannibal, MO. The Cavemen got on the board first in the second inning, after three straight hits to start the inning produced a run. In the third inning, the Cavemen doubled their advantage, after a Sliders' error helped them score another run. The Cavemen would score for the third straight inning in the fourth, increasing their lead to 3-0, and that would be the last run they scored on Sliders' starter Max Frederick who gave the Sliders six quality innings tonight. However, Kris Gardner on the other side was even better for Hannibal. Just like his previous start against Springfield, Gardner threw seven shutout innings for the Cavemen, giving up just 3 hits and 0 walks with 5 strikeouts. The Cavemen added three more to the lead off of the Sliders' bullpen in the eighth, and the Hannibal bullpen would finish the Sliders off from there. This game wrapped up the season series between the two teams, with Hannibal winning the season series 9-3. The Sliders will return home this weekend as they host the Danville Dans tomorrow and Sunday at Robin Roberts Stadium. Both games will be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
