Sliders Lose To Bombers On Rainy Night In Huntingburg

Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders fell to the Dubois County Bombers 10-2 in between the raindrops at League Stadium in Huntingburg, IN tonight. After a brief lightning delay in the top of the second inning, the Bombers picked up the game's first run after cashing in on a lead-off double by Cody Daily in the bottom of the inning. Lightning again delayed the game in the top of the third, and again the Bombers would score after the delay in the bottom half of the inning. This time it was three runs that came across for the Bombers, putting them up 4-0 after three. The Sliders' first run came in the fourth, when CF Mike Fitzgerald led the inning off with a walk and came around on an RBI double by 3B David Kerian. Dubois County had an answer in the bottom of the inning though, picking up a run to get their lead back to four at 5-1. Things would stay that way until the sixth, when a couple of Sliders' errors and walks, helped the Bombers score four runs. In the top of the seventh inning, the Sliders' would benefit from a couple Bombers' errors, allowing Kerian to come around and score the Sliders' second run of the night. The Bombers would again have an answer though, as a two out walk, and a pair of two hits, led to another run to put the advantage back at eight runs. That would be the final run of the night, and with the win, the Bombers have officially won the season series, leading 7-4 with one more meeting left this season. Tomorrow, the Sliders will finish their July 16th game against the Terre Haute Rex in which the Sliders were trailing 10-8 with two on and two out in the top of the ninth. The game is being completed due to a successful protest by the Sliders, stemming from back to back mound visits made by the Terre Haute manager without a pitch being thrown in between, so he could make a pitching change. After the completion of that game, the Sliders and Rex will play their regularly scheduled game. Both games will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
