Sliders Lose Late Lead Thanks To Bombers' Bombs

June 12, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

In the first game of a home and home series between the Springfield Sliders and the Dubois County Bombers, the Bombers erased 3-0 and 5-3 deficits late to win 8-5 tonight at Robin Roberts Stadium. Things started off well for the Sliders as LF Mike Fitzgerald hit a 3-run HR in the very first inning to put the Sliders on top. Sliders' starter Adam Peters pitched very well through six innings, helping to maintain the lead until the seventh inning. In the seventh inning, the Bombers tied things up with a 3-run HR of their own from C Kolin Conner. The Sliders answered with two in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single by CF Wade Rothermich to regain the lead. However, the lead wouldn't last long this time as the Bombers scored five more in the eighth, the last four coming on a grand slam by Conner. From there, the Sliders would go down quietly in the final two innings to fall to 3-10 on the season. The Sliders and Bombers will play again tomorrow, this time at League Stadium in Huntingburg, IN. First pitch is set for 7:15 ET and can be heard on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
