August 3, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders' TR Dunne had shined out of the bullpen all season, and tonight he continued that dominance in the starter's role for the first time this season. Tonight Dunne went seven innings, giving up just one run on two hits with a season-high seven strikeouts as the Sliders beat the Terre Haute Rex 7-1 at Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders scored tonight's first run in the second inning as 3B David Kerian hit a fielder's choice for an RBI, scoring CF Wade Rothermich who had singled to start the inning. Springfield then added three runs in the third, with DH Mike Fitzgerald hitting an RBI double, and Rothermich driving two runs in with a single. The lead increased to 5-0 as Kerian and 2B Michael Hurwitz both doubled in the fourth for another run. The Sliders' final two runs came in the sixth inning, with the RBIs picked up SS Matt Highland, on a single, and LF Chase Hainline, on a sacrifice fly. Dunne was cruising all night and didn't allow a hit until a Casey McCurdy home run with two outs in the seventh brought home Terre Haute's only run of the game. With the win, Dunne is now 5-1 on the season. The season series between the Sliders and Rex is now complete, with the Rex winning the series 7-5. The Sliders' final homestand continues tomorrow as they begin a two game series against the Quincy Gems. First pitch of tomorrow's game is scheduled for 6:35 and the game will be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel.
