Sliders Drop Pair To Rex In Terre Haute

The Springfield Sliders and Terre Haute Rex played two games today at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, IN with the Rex taking both games. The first game was the completion of the game from July 16th, in which the Sliders protested successfully, forcing the final out of the ninth to be replayed. CF Ryan Aper came up with two on and two out and hit an RBI double to get the Sliders within a run, but the Sliders' rally ended there, losing the game 10-9, instead of the original result of 10-8. From there, the two moved on to tonight's regularly scheduled game, with the Rex taking game two as well, 15-5. The Rex jumped out to the early lead, scoring a run in the very first inning off of Zach Wendorf, but it could have been more as the Rex left the bases loaded. The Rex then came back in the second and scored five runs to boost their lead to 6-0 after two. They would then add another run in the fourth, to increase the lead to seven after four. In the fifth, the Sliders' bats woke up as the first five batters of the inning reached, and four runs came around to score. 1B Matt Tellor had an RBI single, DH Reagan Fowler had an RBI double, Tellor scored on a wild pitch, and then Fowler came in on a fielder's choice by Aper. The Sliders then closed the gap to two in the seventh as Aper hit an RBI double, but Fowler was thrown out on the play at the plate, trying to get the Sliders' a second run on the play. The Rex would take advantage and add eight runs over the next two innings against the Sliders' bullpen, scoring three in the seventh and five in the eighth to put the game well out of reach. The Sliders now return to Robin Roberts Stadium for their final homestand of the season which starts tomorrow against the Terre Haute Rex. All the games of the homestand will be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel, starting with tomorrow's game at 6:35.
