Dubois County Bombers News Release

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - The throw into Quincy third baseman Nick Moore bounced away, and Zach Long raced home the final 90 feet to break a 5-5 tie in favor of the Dubois County Bombers Wednesday night at League Stadium against the Quincy Gems.

It was Dubois County's fourth straight win, and the Bombers improved to 13-13 in the second half (33-22 overall) as the Gems fell to 13-12 (31-24).

Nick Smart earned the win for Dubois County, recording the final five outs while only allowing one base runner via a walk.

Jon Rashid started for the Bombers and lasted seven innings, surviving two unearned runs in the first and yielding only a two-run home run to Nick Tindall in the third. Rashid allowed 10 hits and three walks while striking out two.

"We played well early," Bombers catcher Chris Tavares said. "Our pitching was a little off and on, but Rashid got the job done when they had some guys on base."

Rashid's counterpart, Craig Bastert, pitched four and two-thirds innings and allowed five runs, only three of which were earned, on six hits and a walk. He struck out two.

The Bombers halved the Gems' 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Dalton Rouleau's sacrifice fly knocked in Landon Curry, who had singled, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Bastert.

Dubois County took a 4-2 lead with a three-run second inning. Tyler Brake doubled, Tavares singled two batters later, and Brake scored on Drew Rosbottom's double. Simmons then knocked Tavares in with a base hit, and Long's sacrifice fly drove home Rosbottom before Quincy got out of the inning.

Another unearned run courtesy of a Scott Windler RBI-single put the Bombers ahead 5-4 in the fifth after Tindall's home run in the third had tied it at 4.

Reliever Nelson Marchan started the eighth for Dubois County but ran into trouble, retiring only one Gem as he allowed two to reach. One of those men scored to knot the score at 5 before the Bombers worked their magic off Quincy reliever Jake Walsh, who took the loss.

Long singled with one out and advanced to third on Rouleau's double. The throw bounded away from Moore, and the game was over.

"I'm really confident in this team," Tavares said. "Everyone's starting to get hot again at the right time."

The Bombers head to Quincy for a pair before playing a home-and-home with the Danville Dans this weekend. Sunday night is Family Night at League Stadium, which means reserved seats are discounted two dollars and general admission tickets are one dollar off.

The Bombers conclude their season at League Stadium Monday, August 6, versus the Springfield Sliders on Fan Appreciation Night. General admission tickets are one dollar, and reserved seats are two dollars.

Dubois County then hosts the Western Divisional playoff game August 7 at League Stadium; tickets, especially reserved seats, are still available.
