Sliders Doomed By Bombers' Bombs
May 29, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release
3 home runs by the Dubois County Bombers helped them defeat the Springfield Sliders on Opening Night at Robin Roberts Stadium, 9-3. After spotting the Bombers 2 runs in the first inning, Bryce Sablotny settled in and pitched 4 scoreless innings afterwards. Springfield tied things up with single runs in the first and second innings, and then took the lead on Matt Tellor's opposite field home run, to put Sablotny in line for the win. Unfortunately, the bullpen could not hold the lead and the game was tied up in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Adam Guinn. In the seventh inning, the game was untied on a grand slam by Cody Daily. The Bombers would tack on 2 more runs in the eighth inning to put the Sliders away. The Sliders will look to bounce back tomorrow when they visit Dubois County for their home opener. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 and can be heard on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel. This is the first of a three game road trip for the Sliders which concludes on Friday against Danville. Their next home game is Saturday against the Hannibal Cavemen at 6:35.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
