Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters, in conjunction with Coca-Cola and Team Hardinger Transportation, are proud to announce the Hanson Brothers from the famous movie Slap Shot will be appearing at the Tullio Arena this Saturday as part of the Otters game against the Sudbury Wolves.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Real life brothers Steve and Jeff Carlson along with Dave Hanson will be on hand and in full uniform during the game to relive the entertaining Charlestown Chiefs characters that helped make Slap Shot one of the best sports movies of all time. In fact, ESPN.com rated Slap Shot as the fifth best sports movie of all time.

The appearance of the Hanson Brothers will include an autograph session, intermission skit and much more.

The Hanson Brothers evolved from the actual on-ice antics of the Johnstown Jets of the North American Hockey League. Three real brothers – Jeff, Steve and Jack Carlson – all had long hair, thick glasses, and consecutive sweater numbers for the Jets while teammate Dave "Killer" Hanson was a player that opposing players tried to avoid. Another member of the Jets, Ned Dowd, had a sister who was a screenwriter who transformed his stories about the team and it's unique personalities into the 1977 hit movie.

When it came to cast the film, Jack Carlson was playing in the World Hockey Association so Dave Hanson stepped in as the third brother and lent trio his name. The rest is hilarious Hollywood hockey history that has kept sports fans entertained for more than 25 years.

The Otters return to action Friday night at the Tullio Arena when the Toronto St. Michael's Majors make their first visit of the season for a 7:30 p.m. start. The first 1,000 fans into the game receive a free Rocket 101/Erie Otters decal.

Tickets for both games are on sale at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
