Sky's Ely To Miss 2010 Season

CHICAGO, April 15, 2010 - Chicago Sky General Manager and Head Coach Steven Key announced today that Sky forward Shyra Ely will miss the entirety of the 2010 season after she underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured patella tendon in her right knee.

"This is a really tough break," said Key. "Shyra was a player who stepped up for us last year and played well down the stretch. She turned into an important part of this team and we are going to miss her. We wish her all the best and hope she has a speedy recovery."

Last season was Shyra's first with the Sky. She played in all 34 games and started nine. In 14.6 minutes per game she averaged a career-high 6.8 points and tied a career-best with 2.6 rebounds per contest. Shyra has played in the WNBA for five years with stints in both San Antonio and Seattle. She graduated from Tennessee in 2005.

Shyra scored a career-high 26 points in the Sky's 106-99 loss to Phoenix on August 18 in Chicago. She had one year left on her contract with the Sky.

"I'm definitely disappointed," said Ely. "I was looking forward to another great year. I plan on keeping track of the Sky and cheering them on all the way!"
