Skyrockets Sign Small Forward Jason Smith
January 9, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Minot Skyrockets News Release
Minot, ND - January 9, 2007 - After losing forward Lenny Cooke to injury, the Minot Skyrockets of the Continental Basketball Association have struggled in the paint, so the team has brought in small forward Jason Smith to fill the roster. Smith is a 6'6" / 225 lb. forward from the University of Mississippi.
Smith attended Mississippi from 1995-1999. His senior year he averaged 12.9 ppg and 5.6 rpg. In 2000, he played in the Los Angeles Pro-Am Summer League. He played overseas for a few years before returning to the states. In 2005, he played for the Arkansas Angels (WBA) and averaged 14.5 ppg and 4.8 rpg. In the summer of 2006, Smith played for the USBL's Nebraska Cranes. He averaged 15.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 2.3 apg.
Smith was drafted by the Arkansas Rim-Rockers of the NBA D-League in November 2006 but was released after suffering a back injury. Now that he is healthy again, Jason is ready to play for the Skyrockets.
"Jason Smith looks good on paper. He is a strong, reliable shooter, and he will help to fill the void left by Lenny's injury. I will look for Jason to be a go-to shooter for the team," said Head Coach Chris Daleo.
The Skyrockets will take on Kevin Pittsnogle and the Pittsburgh Xplosion on Wednesday, January 10th and Thursday, January 11th. The team will be signing autographs after the game on Wednesday. Tip-off for both nights is at 7:05 pm at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. Please call 839-SLAM to purchase your tickets.
