Minot Skyrockets News Release
Minot, ND - January 7, 2008 - The Minot Skyrockets are excited to announce the signing of Lee Scruggs, pending league approval. Scruggs is a 6'11 / 252 lbs. center from Georgetown.
Scruggs played two years at Georgetown, averaging 9.1 points and 4.8 rebounds and shot 73% from the free throw line. Scruggs was a 2001 NBA Draft candidate and played in the Shaw's Pro Summer League for the Washington Wizards. He then spent two years with the Asheville Altitude (NBDL). In 2001-02, he averaged 10.9 points and 6.2 rebounds. He also led the league in blocked shots with 2.1 per game. Scruggs was named to the NBDL All-Rookie Team and the NBDL All-Defensive Team for 2002. Scruggs then headed overseas to Venezuela and ended up in Finland in 2006-07. He played for the top Finnish league (Korisliiga) and averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks.
The Skyrockets also added a new rookie to the roster, pending league approval. Eric Davis is a 6'9 / 225 lbs. forward from Virginia Commonwealth University.
These new signings come as the Skyrockets have released John Strickland and Kellen Lee. "A players role changes, even from quarter to quarter. John was not satisfied with his role and, therefore, asked to leave. We complied with his request. We're bringing in an athletic 7-footer who can run the floor and block shots. He was a strong NBA-prospect and will be a great part of our team," said Head Coach Chris Daleo.
The next Skyrockets games are on Tuesday and Wednesday when the Atlanta Krunk come to town. The Krunk are coached by former NBA player Kenny Anderson. These games are also Friends and Family Night for fans who can purchase Buy One Get One Free tickets to the games. Tip-off for both games is at 7:05 pm and the doors open at 6:00 pm.
