Sun Kings snap Miners' win streak

PIKEVILLE, KY. - CBA frontrunner Yakama finished strong Sunday in a first-ever game against expansion franchise East Kentucky. The Miners, playing on their home hardwood at the East Kentucky Expo Center, couldn't keep a win streak going. Yakama managed to snap East Kentucky's three-game win streak, defeating the Miners 117-105.

Yakama won the quarter points in impressive fashion - 5.5-1.5. The Sun Kings improved to 19-1 after posting the win.

Desmond Ferguson led Yakama with a game-high 28 points. Four different Sun Kings reached double figures in the scoring column. Jermaine Blackburn scored 21 points and Harvey Thomas added 20 for the Sun Kings. Tim Ellis netted 15 points and Jason Sasser scored 10 for visiting Yakama.

The two teams were in a 35-35 deadlock at the end of the opening quarter.

After limiting East Kentucky offensively in the second quarter, Yakama carried a 61-51 lead into halftime.

The Miners - despite outscoring Yakama 25-23 in the third quarter - had to play from behind throughout the second half.

Josh Pace led East Kentucky with a team-best 26 points. Jason McLeish added 22 points and six assists for the Miners. Mike Crain contributed 17 points for host East Kentucky.

Boo Jackson scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Miners as four different players achieved double figures scoring.

Marcus Heard scored nine points and hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds for East Kentucky.

The Miners dropped to 12-12 following the setback.

East Kentucky will host Yakama on Monday in a return game. Tip-off for Monday's East Kentucky-Yakama game is set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets for Monday's matchup remain available.
