
SkyHawks Tip Off Training Camp

St. Louis, MO ~ The St. Louis SkyHawks announced today, training camp for the team's 2002 inaugural season in the United States Basketball League (USBL), will tip-off Tuesday, April 9 at the Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club in St. Louis, MO.
The week-long training camp, from April 9-14, will consist of two sessions per day. The morning practice is from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while the evening session runs from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Coaches and players will be available for interviews following each practice session. Camp is closed to the public.
In accordance with USBL rules, each team is allowed to invite up to 30 players to training camp, all of whom must have signed a team agreement. The SkyHawks have signed 25 players to contracts heading into camp. The 25 camp participants will be vying for only 12 spots on the SkyHawks 2002 roster.
"I'm very excited about the players we have attending our camp and extremely looking forward to working with them, " said SkyHawks Head Coach Lionel Hollins. "We have a tremendous blend of talent and athleticism. It should definitely be an exciting season."
Among the training camp attendees are former SLU standout Justin Love and two Missouri alumni, including Jason Sutherland and St. Louis native Johnnie Parker. Other local collegiate players include Monte Jenkins (SIUC) and Marlow Currie (Southern Indiana), a St. Louis native and product of Gateway Tech High School. Also signed is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Jr. (Western Kentucky), son of the USBL's Oklahoma Storm Head Coach and former NBA great, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Following training camp, the team will head straight into preseason camp from April 15 to April 19 at the Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club. Preseason will consist of two sessions per day, all of which are closed to the public. On April 19, the SkyHawks coaching staff will finalize the team's 12-man roster by 5:00 p.m.
