Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Springfield Armor 118-101 on Friday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. GATORADE call-up candidate Alexander Johnson broke the franchise record for most free throws without a miss (17-of-17) to help Sioux Falls improve to 18-5 at home.
Johnson had a strong first half with 21 points and eight rebounds as Sioux Falls led 62-50 at halftime. Springfield (55.6 percent) outshot Sioux Falls (51.2 percent) in the opening half but Sioux Falls made 17-of-18 from the charity stripe including 11 makes without a miss from Johnson.
Chris McCray knocked down a jumper to push the lead to 14 points (70-56) but Springfield would not go down without a fight as they went on an 8-0 run in just over two minutes to cut the deficit to 70-64. Both teams scored 20 points in the third quarter and Sioux Falls led 82-70 heading into the final stanza.
The Skyforce took control of the game with a 13-2 run to push the lead to 95-77 with just over seven minutes to go in the contest. Any hopes of a comeback were foiled when Joe Krabbenhoft scored 15 fourth-quarter points on 5-of-6 field goals, much to the delight of courtside fan Andy North, an ABC/ESPN golf analyst and Wisconsin Badgers aficionado.
Johnson posted his 11th double-double of the season with a game-high 31 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Krabbenhoft added 24 points off the bench behind 9-of-12 shooting and a perfect 3-of-3 from the 3-point line while McCray dished out 13 assists for the second time this season.
Marcus Campbell recorded his ninth double-double of the season with a season-high 30 points and 12 rebounds. Abdulai Jalloh and Tre Whitted came off the bench and chipped in 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Sioux Falls hosts Springfield again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT in the regular season home finale.
