Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks broke a three-game losing skid by outlasting the visiting Fort Wayne Mad Ants 95-82 in front of 2,461 fans at the Tullio Arena on Friday night.
After a tight first-half that saw seven lead changes and was tied seventeen times, Erie gradually grew their lead in the second half to improve to 19-28. Blake Ahearn led the Erie attack with 29 points, including a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line, improving his league-leading free throw shooting percentage to 94.6%.
Jackie Manuel added 22 points and guard Cedric Jackson pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds while adding 11 points.
Fort Wayne put together a balanced attack with all five starters accounting for 73 of the team's 82 points. Oliver Lafayette was tops with 18, followed by Rod Wilmont with 16 and Anthony Kent added 14. Rob Kurz recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Mad Ants fell to 18-28.
Erie will try and even the season series on Sunday to five games apiece when the same two teams play their tenth and final game of the season against each other at the Tullio Arena Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The first 1,000 fans receive a Cedric Jackson lithograph designed by local sports artist Kevin-John Jobczynski and the entire BayHawks team signs autographs after the game.
