SkyChiefs offense pounds out 17 hits in 12-9 win

The Syracuse SkyChiefs scored three runs in the top of the ninth to break a 9-9 tie and defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons on Monday afternoon in Spring Training Action at the Phillies Complex in Clearwater, Florida.

Noah Hall got things started in the ninth with a single. Hall advanced to third on a double by Alexis Rios. Shawn Fagan plated Hall and Rios with a double. Jorge Sequea drove home Fagan on a single to give the SkyChiefs a 3-run lead. Vinnie Chulk retired the Red Barons in order in the bottom of the ninth earning the save.

Sequea led the SkyChiefs offensive attack with two hits and four runs batted in, including a three-run home run in the seventh. Jeff Guiel had three hits, including a double and a triple and drove in three runs. Five other SkyChiefs batters had multiple hit games, led by Noah Hall with four, Russ Adams (Double), Glenn Williams, Justin Singleton and Tyrell Godwin all had two hits apiece.

David Bush started on the mound for the SkyChiefs going five innings allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out five Red Barons. Mark Lukasiewicsz and Vinnie Chulk each threw one scoreless inning of relief.

The SkyChiefs (7-4) host the Columbus Clippers at the Blue Jays Complex on Tuesday.
